Laurie Davis - Tangled Tiles
Laurie Davis began painting with oils at age nine, and took art lessons throughout junior high school, working in acrylics, batik, screen-printing and pastels. An Honors Art student at Clarksville High School, Davis showed artwork locally and then studied art, marketing and dance at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Her focus was on watercolors and metal design.
Davis began experimenting with stained glass when her children were young, utilizing the copper foil method. Each piece of hand-cut glass is wrapped in foil and then soldered together. Shifting to mosaic work in 2008, she wanted to explore the aspects of light when working with multiple glass mediums and textures.
Davis creates stained glass work, mosaic tile designs, enameled glass on copper and fused glass pieces. Much of her work features turquoise and blue hues, showcasing the colors of the ocean. From Radnor Lake to the Smoky Mountains, she finds natural scenes inspirational and that the colors and patterns translate beautifully into glass and mosaic designs. Her art is functional and aesthetically pleasing; these art pieces are meant to be used every day and enjoyed!
